National Tom Sawyer Days (NTSD)-- From May until the event (4th of July week), most of our time is spent working on and discussing NTSD. There is way too much stuff to do to list here, but the main things that we control and run are; Fence Painting, Fireworks, Parade, Tanyard Gardens, Entertainment and Merchandise. Other things we control, but don't actually run, are the Food Booths and the Kiddieland Carnival. We also have control over the whole schedule of events, including those run by other clubs. Planning for NTSD actually begins in January of each year, and it takes the WHOLE club to pull it off!

HANNIBAL | The Hannibal Jaycees have released the schedule for this year's Tom Sawyer Days, which will run from Saturday, June 27 through Saturday, July 5.
“It's time to celebrate summer and our freedom with family and friends,” said Hannibal Jaycees vice president of public relations Trisha O'Cheltree. “The variety of events offer something for everyone to enjoy. It has been a staple in our community for 65 years now.”
There will not be any fees to attend, except for the concerts and what guests choose to buy.
Tom Sawyer Days will begin on Saturday, June 27, with the Hannibal Jaycees hosting a washers tournament in Tanyard Gardens. Registration for the washers tournament will open at 10 a.m., with the tournament beginning at 11 a.m.
Theory of a Deadman was scheduled to perform on the night of June 27, but had to cancel the show since several of their band members are Canadian and the border remains closed. The Hannibal Jaycees have booked Maximus and Smells Like Nirvana as replacements for Theory of a Deadman on June 27.

Hannibal Jaycees board member Bobi Mathews said organizers wanted to keep all of the events going, but are taking extra precautions.
“We are working on getting hand sanitizers throughout the crowd and social distancing by marks,” Mathews said. “(There will be) extra sanitizers at the front gate and there will be extra wash stations.”
On Thursday, July 2, registration begins for the 48th annual pet show by F&M Bank, which begins at noon, and the show will start at 1 p.m. Also at noon is the start of the Youth Mud Volleyball Tournament.

Event organizers are expecting guests from surrounding communities and from Illinois to celebrate Tom Sawyer Days.
“I am sure there will be, like always,” O'Cheltree said. “However, everyone will be asked to follow the safety guidelines.”
Friday, July 3 has a full slate of events throughout the day. Registration for the Pee-Wee Fence Painting at N. Main and Hill St., and the Talent Show at Tanyard Gardens opens at 1 p.m. Both events will then take place at 2 p.m.

Mathews said there has been a mixture of responses regarding this year's Tom Sawyer Days event.
“Some people are excited to have something to look forward to, and are trying to get back normalcy in their lives and this kind of gives them that,” Mathews said. “Others are still concerned about the social distancing and they should know that we are doing everything we can to maintain what the state says we have to do.”
