THE JAYCEE CREED
That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life;
That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations;
That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise;
That government should be of laws rather than of men;
That earth's great treasure lies in human personality;
And that service to humanity is the best work of life.
The Hannibal Junior Chamber (Jaycees) gives young adults the tools they need to build the bridges of success for themselves in the areas of business development, management skills, individual training and community service.
Established to provide opportunities for young men to develop personal and leadership skills through service to others, the Jaycees later expanded to include women, reflecting the growing influence and leadership of women in America.
The Hannibal Jaycees are devoted to developing young leaders in the Hannibal community.
The Hannibal Junior Chamber (Jaycees) are a volunteer organization of young men and women between the ages of 18 and 41. We are a leadership training organization whose main purpose is to improve the quality of life in our community while developing the individual member to his or her full potential as a person, a concerned citizen and a leader in the community.
The organization was started in the 1920’s as the Junior Chamber of Commerce, with the purpose of helping young people in business. In 1965, the name was changed to “Jaycees” as the organization expanded into broader areas, such as individual development and community service. Woman attained full membership privileges nationwide in 1984.
Members of the Hannibal Jaycees have many opportunities to achieve their goals and develop valuable skills. Whether you are interested in being a chapter officer, or simply working on a project committee, you will have the chance to learn skills ranging from marketing to personnel management and more! Every member has unique talents to offer, and we provide them the freedom to contribute them in any way: from training other members, to creatively applying their talents to programs and projects. Programs that the Hannibal Jaycees have offered to the community include:
It’s often who you know that matters, and Jaycees are people who are connected. Serving as a Jaycee provides the opportunity to develop strong relationships with other Jaycees, who are often people of influence. Members of our organization have gone on to do great things and include:
- Presidents Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton
- Tom Monaghan - Domino’s Pizza mogul
- Kaye Lani Rae Rafko-Wilson – former Miss America and registered nurse
- Larry Bird – Basketball legend
The Hannibal Jaycees are part of the Missouri Jaycees, and are affiliated with The United States Junior Chamber and Junior Chamber International. There are countless leadership opportunities for members at each of these levels. The state, national and international organizations support the local chapters around the globe, and provide training and tools to develop our members.
